Infant Massage Benefits
The massage helps stimulate many bodily systems such as the circulatory, digestive, hormonal, immune, respiratory, lymphatic and vestibular systems. It also stimulates language development, muscle tone, growth, sensory integration, and body awareness. Massage also helps babies relax by reducing the levels of stress hormones while increasing the relaxing and anti-stress hormones. Common physical discomforts that many babies experience such as gas, colic, constipation, growing pains, and congestion can be relieved by massage as well. Finally, massage promotes bonding between baby and whoever is giving the massage by promoting secure attachment, non-verbal communication, one-on-one quality time, undivided attention and nurturing touch.
